Lecture on “The importance of local and international election observation” was held in Azerbaijan

On March 22, a lecture on “The importance of local and international election observation” was held. The lecturer was Anar Mammadli, Chairman of the Election Monitoring and Democracy Studies Centre.

The event was attended by civil society activists and journalists. The importance of the observation process, the differences between domestic and international observation, the principles of the observation system and the expectations of Azerbaijan in these elections were discussed at the event.

Anar Mammadli brought several examples of obvious trends observed in the potential election process. The lecture continued with a discussion around the photographic and video footage of observers, thing to be focused on and ways to increase public control of the electoral process in general. In addition, Anar Mammadli compared Azerbaijan’s election practices with neighbouring countries’ election practices and emphasized the characteristics of different countries, ways to select voters in Azerbaijan, forming a commission and so on. Azerbaijan’s specific electoral practices were also discussed at the lecture.
